Web Site Owners Responsibilities and SEO

So you have a new web site.  That is fantastic.  But.. there are a couple things you must do to ensure that your site can be found.  There are some responsibilities that you the new web site owner must do. Here is a list.

First you must submit your site to the search engines - This is critical for your site to be found and has to be done in order for your site to be indexed.  You must know where and how and to which website is most beneficial.

Second... find other sites to link to you and for you to link your site to as well to create as many inbound links as possible.

This is as simple or as complex as you make it and MUST be done by someone.  It takes hours and hours of work to do this simple task whether you do it or hire it done.

So get out there and submit, submit and submit.

Remember.  Your web site is no different than your cell phone number.

If you don't tell people about it they won't call.  It is not the responsibility of the person who sold you the phone or web site to ensure that people can find you.   That is your responsibility to do or have done.

So the lesson to this story.

If your web site cannot be found and you didn't pay anyone to market it... It is your own fault.  I am quite sure that you don't call Verizon and complain that nobody calls your cell phone because you failed to advertise or distribute your number.  Your web site is the same.  It is your responsibility to advertise your information or pay someone who can.  There are millions of tips and tricks and information about this online.  Do some research and learn.

Market your site, Tell people about it, Ask them if they used it, Ask them to use it.  They won't know what you have until you tell them, and you won't know if they used it if you don't ask.

If you don't ask you will never know.  This is the best FREE information you will ever get... Ask your clients and floor calls if they used your site.

I like your new look. The header and border are very "clean" and crisp. Good job!

Brian - Any suggestions on getting the website found and getting others to link to it? That seems to be where I am having problems.

I would suggest that you download www.webceo.com or a program like this one and learn how to use it.

Free software that has all kinds of great features and reports.  Many of my posts in my blog will tell you how to do many of these things.

Use it and you will be amazed.

Search Google.com for "Magic Valley Real Estate"  or "Twin Falls Real Estate"  Notice the number one positions...  Those are web sites I market.  They are there for a reason.

Thanks Vickie.  You can do it too.  Or I can do it for you if you want.  Contact me for pricing.

Notice on my blog where it says how to customize your own...  There is a link under my photo to the Genius who created a form for everyone to use...  He gets all the credit.

The linking can be done with ony other site. Talk to friends and associates whom you have done or would like to do business with.

This can be done in the favorites or links section.

look at any of the sites on http://www.my-mlsonline.com/ There is a list of websites here that each can list several others in the favorites section. This will create the necessary linking. The incoming links are more important than the outgoing links. This means that it's better to have links on other websites that would allow people to get to your website rather than just adding a bunch of links on your site.

Example: http://www.tamigooding.com/ has a favorites section, but has not listed any favorites.

Hey Brian,

Good advise.  I also get a ton of calls from agents asking why their site is not on the first page of Google yet another agent in their office is.

When I take a quick look at their site, the first thing I notice is that either their name or the name of their broker is the only thing in their title tag, when they are trying to get ranked for a term like "mls Minneapolis".  There is a lot to learn to get it right but fortunately there are free programs like webCEO to help people.  Now it is just a matter of taking the time!

Yes it does take effort on your part the site owner.  I have spent the last 11 years marketing and creating web sites and I know personally it takes serious effort and a great system that only develops over time and knowing what you are doing and educating yourself on what the search engines want.

The Internet isn't getting easier.  Just more options and new features and more technical which requires constant education and effort.
